For lovers of chemistry, biology and people, Andrew recommends pharmacy as a great way forward. Having ruled out farming (no time for summer holidays) and banking (maths A level put him off) he followed his passion and aptitude for Science, and as a pharmacist now enjoys the challenge and responsibility of making sure patients get the most appropriate medication and undertsand the drugs they are taking.
A degree in aeronautical engineering led Chris Open to a job at Rolls Royce. Eight years on he realised his interest lay in business management. Retraining opened the door to his research and development (reducing carbon emissions) post at E.ON. Chris combines his rewarding work with challenging out of work activities and is passionate about travel.
Janet O'Connell is a Senior Sister in the intensive care unit for babies at Addenbrookes Hospital. She had always been good with children, although it was only after having her own that she chose to retrain as a nurse. She describes a role model colleage "Just thinking about it now, I probably have become that person that I aspired to be, because I am in that senior role now."
Charlie Bush is a Marine Claims Assistant at Chaucer Insurance. He particularly enjoys being in London. "I've lived in the countryside all my life, and London's got that vibrancy about it, the kind of - a lot of my friends from both school and a lot of my friends from University have all ended up here. There's so much to do in London it's unbelievable."
Barabara Rumble is a Civil Engineer with the Environment Agency. She says "I am looking at the flood risk management... I suppose one of the incidents which really had an impact on me was big flooding in '97 in Poland". She would like to build bridges because "they connect land and people".
