Hooray the Delays!
Delays drummer Rowly talks to Student Times about fried chicken empires, stage fright and meeting their heroes. By Jonathan Williams
“I swear, in my memory he’s like eight foot tall.” Hero worship isn’t that uncommon, even for a well-established band like Delays. Rowly (just Rowly, no one has called him Matthew since primary school) is remembering a recent encounter that left him star struck. Here’s a clue: “I’m not worthy of the guy who gets drunk and takes the piss out of the Eurovision Contest,” the musician explains. Talk is, of course, of
Terry Wogan.

Hold on Now Youngster - Los Campesinos!
If you want to talk about student bands, then Los Camp! are an extreme example. GIG OF THE MONTH:
Catch Riley - University of Salford
On first appearance the group seem nothing out of the ordinary. A four piece made up of bass, guitar and drums. As the first song begins, the energy coming from the stage is almost tangible. The pop/funk sound with the tinge of rock immediately grabs the interest of everyone listening. The lead singer and guitarist of the group, Luke Rendall, has a crisp and distinctive tone to his voice, along with amazing stage presence that wows the crowd. David Smith on guitar compliments Luke whilst also showcasing his own musical style.

IT’S BEEN a while since Wombats in general have been
in the press. And why would they? They’re slow and embarrassingly easy
to hunt. In contrast to the burrowing Australian marsupial, The Wombats are
slick and ready to take on the world. Comprising two Scousers and a Norwegian,
they have blasted out from behind the curtain of the capital of culture (how’s
that for alliteration) more like a ravenous eagle than an endangered fur-ball
that eats grass all day. With plays from the likes of Colin Murray on his Radio
1 show, The Wombats hype makes for high expectations.
