Clinton revives campaign for the US presidency with primary election wins in three states.

US presidential candidate Hilary Clinton has revived her campaign for the Whitehouse with victories in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island.

The pressure was very much on Senator Clinton prior to the results as defeat in this round of primary elections would have resulted in huge pressure from her party to admit defeat in the race for Democratic candidate to her rival, Senator Barack Obama.

Obama gets backing from Washington establishment

The youngest brother of late President Kennedy has given his backing to democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama. Edward Kennedy’s move came as a surprise as it had previously been expected he would remain neutral until the Democratic National Convention in late August, where party members choose between the hopefuls.

Skins-style party host turns pro

An Australian teen who caused over £9,000 worth of damage to his parents house during an out of control party plans to turn professional.

Corey Delaney, the 16 year old told local television he plans to become a DJ and host parties for a living. Delaney’s new manager defended his clients’ actions: “He did a great party in the wrong place,” adding that the next venue chosen would be more suitable.

Government pushing for 6 week detention without charge

Details of the proposed new Counter-Terrorism Bill will be published today, under which Police could hold a terror suspect for 42 days before charging him. The proposal has been attacked as “draconian” by critics. Current legislation allows for 28 days, having been increased to this only in 2005.

Zimbabwe opposition leader arrested

Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the Zimbabwean opposition, was arrested Tuesday ahead of a planned march in the capital Harare. He was released a few hours later. Tsvangirai’s Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) was set to protest the deteriorating economic situation in the country, which in recent months has seen supermarkets empty and left the population unable to find even the most basic necessities.

CIA 'launches Facebook for spies'

The CIA is to open a communications tool for its staff, modelled on social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace, the Financial Times reports.

The project, known as A-Space, aims to improve the way that intelligence agents communicate, it said.

Lecturers Criticised on Myspace & Facebook

Keele University has written to all its students threatening them with disciplinary action for comments made about staff on the internet.

Staff said the remarks on Myspace and Facebook were unacceptable, and students may face legal action from the members of staff concerned.

Israel Condemn UCU Boycott

Isreali leaders have labeled the University and College Union (UCU) decision to boycott the nation’s academic institutions as “scandalous”.

Minister for Anti-Semitism, Yitzhak Herzog, continued to denounce the motion saying that it was “discriminatory and one-sided” he continued to add that he will be discussing the matter with British Ambassador, Tom Phillips.

Virginia Tech Holds Graduation Ceremony

The annual graduation ceremony took place at Virginia Tech; a month after Cho-Seung Hui massacred 32 and took his own life at the University.

Saturday’s service was watched by 30,000 spectators as more than 5,000 students graduated.

Jordanian Student sentenced death for beheading fellow student

Amman - A male student who decapitated a colleague after he made sexual advances has been sentenced to death by Jordan High Court, Al-Arab Al-Yom newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The student was convicted of premeditated murder and possession of a sharp object, it said.

The two students, who were not identified, attended the same university and knew each other well before the victim demanded sexual favours of the other, the report said.

The 20-year-old man lured his fellow student to a deserted place where he stabbed him. He then beheaded the victim and gouged out his eyes out before hiding the mutilated corpse near a river.

The condemned man plans to appeal the sentence.

US student loan firm being bought

Sallie Mae, the largest provider of student loans in the US, has confirmed it is being bought by a takeover consortium for $25bn (£12.5bn).

Private equity groups JC Flowers & Co and Friedman Fleischer & Lowe will take a 50.2% joint stake in the company.

Virginia killings review pledged

Virginia's governor has pledged to review authorities' handling of shootings at Virginia Tech university that left 32 people dead.

Tim Kaine's comments came amid claims by survivors that the US university did not do enough to protect students during Monday's shooting rampage.

Police said Cho Seung-hui, a student originally from South Korea, killed 30 people, before committing suicide.

Iranian student protesters face expulsion

Students who protested when Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited Amirkabir University of Technology (also called Amir Kabir University) on December 11, 2006 have been expelled and eligibility notices, allowing the students to be enlisted into the armed forces, were sent out with the signature of university chancellor Ali Reza Rahai, the Guardian reports.

Women's groups promote "Equal Pay Day" in Belgium

On Friday March 30, several trade unions and women's organisations organised actions in public places and companies all over Belgium to promote equal pay for women. Volunteers handed out flyers about the issue at the Brussels Airport and the Brussels subway and in train stations, companies, hospitals and schools throughout the country.

First Guantánamo Bay prisoner sentenced

Australian Guantánamo Bay prisoner David Hicks has been sentenced on Friday by a special military court after pleading guilty to providing material support to the Taliban. He was sentenced to seven years in prison but he will only need to complete nine months of his penalty, most of it back in Australia, under the terms of his plea agreement.

Drying up rivers to cause freshwater crisis

Several factors including climate change and pollution may put at risk of drying up some of the largest rivers on the globe, a report by the environmental group WWF says. Following a study of ten rivers currently at risk of drying up, the group warns that without any action the process of drying up might lead to freshwater emergency.
