Honda F1 Takes Formula Student to Top Gear

Bosses at motor-racing giant, Honda Racing F1, have become the latest big name to support Formula Student (FS)– Europe’s biggest student motor sport event.

FS is taking place this year for the first time at Silverstone It will run between 13th and 15th July and will be run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The competition challenges some of the best young engineering minds in the world to compete in a single seater-racing car that they have designed and built from scratch.

The end of a busy season has been marked with a much deserved call up to the England Under-18 squad for Gloucestershire trio Henry Trinder, Oliver Winterbottom and Charlie Sharples.

Trinder, who attends Hartpury Rugby Academy and is undertaking a BTEC National Diploma in Sports and Excellence in Rugby put in string of impressive displays for the Under-18 side in the recent Six Nations campaign.

BUSA Football Finals - Results

The favourites left the BUSA football championships victorious yesterday in both the men’s and women’s finals.

Loftus Road, hosting its second consecutive finals and home to Championship side Queens’ Park Rangers, saw the Hartpury men’s side walk out 1-0 victors and the Loughborough ladies romp home with a 4-2 win.

Basketball Final 8's 2007 Review from Hosana

The past weekend saw Hosana supporting the BUSA Basketball final 8’s weekend in Sheffield at the EIS for the secind year. Games started early on Friday and culminated with a finals day on Sunday.

Deja vu struck at this year as the final was between the 2 teams who contested last year’s final: Worcester and London Met. The first quarter set the scene for what would be an incredible match.

British Universities v South Africa Under 19s

The British Universities Cricket Team arrived in Pretoria, South Africa on Friday and has had three days acclimatisation and preparation before their first competitive game of their tour.

The three-week Triangular Series, which runs from 22 March – 08 April, will see the participants compete in two three-day matches and nine one-day matches, with the first three-day match between SASSU Cricket XI and BUSA taking place on Thursday at Sinovich Park.

Men's Football Shield Final 2007 - Hull 2nds 2 - 1 Exeter 2nds

The 2006/07 Men’s Football Shield Final proved to be an entertaining and exciting game which was well received by the many spectators at Hertfordshire University. The fantastic conditions and facilities paved the way for a high quality football match. In the end it was Hull who incredibly completed their 100% record in BUSA for the 2006/07 season, but not without a fight from Exeter.

BUSA Indoor Finals 2007 - Day 2

The BUSA Indoor Finals continued today with Championship, Trophy and Shield titles at stake in Badminton, Netball and Table Tennis.

BUSA Netball Champions 2007 - Loughborough The first title to be decided on day 2 was the Netball Shield.  Having beaten their own 2nd team in the Semi Finals, Loughborough 3rds continued their good form to beat Southampton 1sts 47-30 in the Shield Final.  Next on court were Oxford University 1sts and Bath 2nds.  In a thrilling contest Oxford held their nerve to take the Trophy title 37-33.  In the Championship Final defending Champions Loughborough retained the title, beating UWIC 52-24.

BUSA Yachting Championships 2007

Some of the best young sailing talent in the country will be gathered at the Royal Southern Yacht Club to contest the British Student Yachting Championships on 2-5 April.

Thirty one teams will battle it out over three days with eight races on tight Solent courses with one long inshore race. Representing universities from all over Great Britain, the teams of eight crew will be in identical boats which is sure to result in close racing and hugely competitive mark roundings.

1st 13 Huddersfield 1st 13 - Wed 24 Jan - Rugby Union

“You boys were robbed”: accurate but comfortless words from the Huddersfield coach minutes after his side had snatched an improbable draw to share the points with a crestfallen York.

The White Rose’s tight five provided the platform for their early dominance, supported by gritty defence from their back-row. Direct from kick-off, pressure at the break-down and efficient set-piece ball for York kept the home side hemmed in their own 22.

2012 looks sweet for Katia

First year student Katia Lannon (Brunel) has retained her indoor pentathlon title, winning three gold medals, which once again sparks rumours that she will represent great britain at the 2012 olympic games.

Last’s year’s Amateur Athletics’ Association (AAA) senior women’s indoor pentathlon gold medallist, Katia, 21, who is studying Sport Sciences at Brunel University, in Uxbridge, Middx, has won this year’s England Athletics Indoor Pentathlon Championships, North of England, and Welsh Indoor Pentathlon Championships, held in Sheffield.

Great Britain Hockey Super League

The best hockey players from Wales, England and Scotland will compete over three tournament weekends held in Edinburgh, Swansea and Manchester to hold the title of Super League Champions.
The aim of the event is to provide an annual competition whereby the best sportsmen and women playing Hockey in Great Britain will compete against each other, the GB Head Hockey Coaches hope to identify players, coaches and technical officials who have the ability to compete and participate for Great Britain in future Olympic Games.

The tournament will be split into male and female, with each gender hosting three teams from England, two from Scotland and one from Wales with all teams made up of their best regional players who meet the high standards of playing at a National Level.

The event in Swansea will take place on the 28th and 29th April 2007 at the King George V Playing Fields at Sketty Lane, details on times and fixtures are available on the England Hockey website.

Sunday 14 January saw the long awaited South Western Men’s Lacrosse tournament take place at the Royal High School, Bath. Despite recent wet weather causing a last minute venue change, the sun shone on the day which saw some great Lacrosse in action.
