Justine Southall is Publishing Director for Cosmopolitan magazine. "I had no idea that this job existed". She loves working in magazines and started by selling them. She thinks that all her experiences from working - in shops or as a waitress - were valuable preparation for her business career.
Ben Barnes works in the financial services sector as a Compliance Officer at Chaucer Syndicates. "We're the ones who liaise with regulators and other kind of legal bodies, just to make sure that the company is complying with laws and regulations that they have to do to be able to trade." He has a degree in ancient history and had to work hard to find a good job afterwards. At one insurance company he was frustrated to be pipped to the post by an internal candidate. "But you've just got to persevere, and my philosophy has always been that things happen for a reason." He got a much more challenging and expansive job at Chaucer in the end.
An influential teacher and an inspirational careers talk from a visiting ward sister helped Angela discover her passion for nursing. Changing roles regularly and working in the UK and South Africa, has kept Angela's interest in nursing alive. Her mantra is 'Make the most of your life, do whatever you can when you can do it'
Anna Steward is a Solicitor specialising in wealth planning, who also practices independently as a Notary Public. She says "I had absolutely no idea when I left school what I really wanted to do. I did a History degree, because it was what I really enjoyed. And I have no regrets in going I think that way round, because the beauty of the Law is that you can come to it from anything".
Magna Abrunhosa is a Manager in the Fund Accounting at Fidelity. She works in what is called the "back office" - the bit that does the operational work - sorting everything out. She did not go to university..
