Writing in PPR, the Institute of Public Policy Research's journal, Jasper Gerard has argued that, "When it comes to booze, society seems to have lost its senses," and implies the UK has lost-the-plot on alcohol regulation.
Taking Drugs
Taking drugs is a gamble - everybody reacts differently, you can never be sure of how a drug may harm you.
All classified drugs are illegal. The Misuse of Drugs Act categorises drugs as A, B or C. People caught using, selling or giving away Class A or B drugs face severe penalties from a criminal record to life imprisonment.
Class A drugs are ecstasy, cocaine, heroin and LSD. Class B drugs are cannabis and speed.
Drugs can be extremely dangerous. People take them because the immediate effects can be very pleasant They forget or ignore the long term damage drugs can do. With a “high” there is always a “low” – drugs may give a temporary “buzz” but the after-affects can be really unpleasant.
