Emma Hollis (Loughborough) tonight smashed the world record for the S8 category 800m freestyle at the BUCS Short Course Swimming Championships in Sheffield.

James Scott, a 3rd year Civil Engineering student, and Scottish junior internationalist Gregor Hall, a 2nd year Actuarial Mathematics undergraduate, enjoyed a winning margin of 3 seconds over the 5000 metre course in Boston, Lincolnshire, after a powerful second half to their race.

BUCS Team GBR attended a reception held by Alastair Morgan, British Consul General to South China at the Huawei headquarters, one of the mainland’s largest investors in the UK, in Shenzhen on Tuesday.


2011 World University Games

British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) take Great Britain’s largest delegation to date to the 2011 World University Games in Shenzhen, China. Team GBR consists of 220 athletes and support staff across 16 sports, many viewing the Games as incredible preparation in the run up to London 2012.

The first stage of the BUCS Squash Premier League took place on 6 & 7 November with Nottingham and Leeds (women) winning all three of their matches to become the first qualifiers for the top group in stage two.

Bramall Lane, home of Championship club Sheffield United, is set to showcase some of the countries brightest soccer starlets as it hosts the BUCS football finals on the 10th March.
